Course availability Don’t forget to make your course site available to students by going to the Administration block in the course and selecting Settings. Go down to Availability and make the dropdown read “This course is Available to students”. Click “Save changes” so the change takes effect.
If your course isn't listed in Moodle, fear not -- it exists, but you haven't been assigned to it yet (probably because Banner doesn't know you're teaching it). If you don't see your course, contact the Help Desk at 610.330.5501 or help@lafayette.edu with the course name and section number and we'll assign you to it.
Enrollment Students have been added to courses according to the information available in Banner. A drop/add process will be run each day through Monday, Sept 8. If you have students who do not have access to the course but should, you can add them manually by following these steps:
- In the Administration block for the course, click Assign Roles.
- Select the role you wish to assign (Teacher, Student, or Guest).
- On the Assign Role page, enter all or part of the name of the person you wish to add in the Search field.
- When the search is complete, select the correct name from the box on the right of the page, then click the left-pointing arrow to add that name to the list on the left.
Note: to unassign someone from a role, select their name on the left and click the right-pointing arrow.
Additional Assistance Moodle help documents are available on the ITS Web site.
If you have questions about using Moodle, please contact Courtney Bentley (bentleyc or x5504) or Jason Alley (alleyj or x5884). |

Students: Not all faculty use Moodle for every class. Your course list represents the courses that are active in Moodle; it's not your official roster. If a course you're taking doesn't appear in the list, ask your teacher if he or she is using Moodle for that course. If your teacher is using Moodle and the course is active but still doesn't show up in your list, it may be because your drop/add hasn't been processed yet -- please wait 24 hours for the change to propagate to Moodle. If you still can't get into your course, contact the Help Desk at 610.330.5506 or help@lafayette.edu with the course and section that you should be in. |

With the start of the school year, faculty are curious as to how they can copy content from an old course into a new one. Moodle supports this ability, and we've documented how to do it on the ITS web site: Copying course material from one Moodle course to another.
Please note, some faculty have reported "ghost activities" appearing when importing an old course's content into a new course. These ghosts are empty duplicates of legitimate activities in the courses.
We're working with the Moodle community on a permanant fix for this problem, but for now we have a simple backend process that cleans up the errant ghosts. If you have one of these problem courses, please email newquisk@lafayette.edu or call 610-330-5759 with the name and number of the problem course, and we'll clean it up ASAP. |
